Under Article 40(1) of the AI Act, conformity with harmonised standards whose references have been published in the Official Journal of the European Union gives rise to a presumption of conformity with the requirements those standards cover.
Why it matters
It is the only mechanism that converts a standard into a defence, and it is the step EN 18286 has not yet taken.
