On 3 September 2026 the Institute of Foundation Models, part of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, released K2 Horizon: six models at 0.9B, 3.7B, 7B, 32B, 36B (4B active) and 375B (23B active) parameters, all under the Apache 2.0 licence.

Why it matters

An Apache 2.0 release at 375B is the largest open base a European team can legally build on, which makes the terms of that release a live engineering decision rather than a licensing footnote.
