The same survey reports four further confidence-versus-control pairs: 74 per cent trust testing to catch failures against 19 per cent with an automated release gate; 77 per cent claim a complete agent inventory against 44 per cent running active discovery; 75 per cent believe their agents are secure end to end, of whom 88 per cent had a security incident anyway; and 58 per cent report more production incidents per hundred changes since deploying agents.

Why it matters

Four independent controls fail in the same direction, which makes the pattern a governance gap rather than a tooling gap in any one area.
