Section 202a StGB penalises obtaining access, for oneself or another, to specially protected data not intended for the actor, by overcoming the access protection, with up to three years' imprisonment or a fine.

Why it matters

It fixes what a European team is actually exposed to when an agent it operates exceeds authorised access on someone else's system, and which instrument the exposure runs through.
