GitHub CLI v2.99.0 added a repeatable --attach flag that uploads a local image or video and references it inline in an issue, pull request or comment body, announced in GitHub's changelog on 1 September 2026 and supported on gh issue create, gh issue edit, gh issue comment, gh pr create, gh pr edit and gh pr comment.

Why it matters

The capability gap that motivated the workaround closed four weeks before the research was published. The remediation is partly to let the agent know a supported path now exists, not only to block the unsupported one.
