The generalist is the one figure the whole broadside is drawn around — the hub at the centre of the octagon, the person each of the eight theses radiates back toward. They are not the worker who failed to commit to a single craft. They are the worker who chose breadth as a shape, deliberately, the way another might choose a discipline. The width is the point, not the wound.

Define the generalist by what they do, never by what they lack. They span registers, synthesise across fields, and judge which threads are worth braiding. In the new division of labour their office is to connect and to decide: they live in The Seams, where no specialist is posted, and there they build the bridges that join one field to the next.

The opposite number, The Specialist, digs a single deep well; the generalist works the surface between many. To stand at that centre on purpose is to take The Vow — the closing pledge of The Generalist Manifesto.
